Maxx and Lucy are my most favorite four-footed friends in the whole world!! They are the fifth and sixth Labs that I have owned, and by far, the most incredible and wonderful!! I thank God everyday for the joy they bring into our lives.
Maxx is the reason for how my photography all came about, and is the inspiration for "Max"-DogPhotos. He is so very intelligent and amazing.
Lucy is our little "Princess". She is the most "girly" girl dog we've ever known!! She loves to "dress up" and the frillier the better. She is sooo funny!! But in addition to that she has the sweetest personality, is always so happy and loves to greet people and snuggle. She and Maxx are inseparable and get along so
amazingly. Our Vet is always telling us that it is rare to get two dogs that get
along so well together. We feel very fortunate, very blessed, to
have them in our lives.
Ashley and Maxx, the day we brought him home to live with us. Maxx is 8 weeks old. Photo is by Dan Koukol.
Maxx came to us from Topwater Labradors near Sly Park, CA. He was the only yellow in the litter and comes from a hunting line of Labs. He probably would have made a good hunting dog. We've never had a Lab with such strong retrieving and love of water instincts---especially the love of water!! There was nothing we could do to keep him out of the water. If he couldn't find any, he'd dig the water out of his water bowl and lay in the puddle. He even learned to turn on the bathtub and play in that!! So we knew we had to find something for him to do that involved water.......Quick!!
Val was searching the internet one day looking for ideas of what we could do with Maxx when she came across an organization called "Splash Dogs". Little did we know what an adventure we were about to embark upon.........

It seems like such a dream now--it's all gone by so fast and so much has happened.
Maxx was 4 months old when he first started jumping with Splash Dogs. He LOVED it!!! He was actually doing 6 -8 foot jumps at 4 months. We were so proud of him and so happy to see him having so much fun!
He hasn't developed into a real big jumper like some of his buddies but that's OK, he's having fun and that's all that matters
Lucy. Where do I start with Lucy...how can I stop talking about Lucy! She is just the light of our family!
We didn't want Maxx to be alone, so we started looking for a little sister for him. Val came across a breeder in Bakersfield named Shawna Lawson of Lawson Labradors. We fell in love with her Labs, they were SOO beautiful!! Unfortunately all the pups she had at the time were spoken for. Then all of a sudden Shawna called us and said someone changed their mind and she had one little yellow female available. So we took a trip down to Bakersfield to get our sweet little Lucy.

The day we brought Lucy home an amazing transformation took place with Maxx. He immediately became her protector and biggest fan. He adores her and they are inseperable. We get so much enjoyment out of seeing how they interact. They have always gotten along beautifully and are so loyal and devoted to each other.
Lucy has the most amazing and sweet personality and she brings joy wherever she goes. We have never met a dog like her before.
Our lives have been so blessed by these two dogs. (I'll write more about them later.....)
